About

Hello there and welcome!

I’m Tom. Illustrator and visual designer with a background in games and theme parks.

A portfolio should speak for itself of course, but I thought it would be interesting for newcomers to tell a little bit about myself and the way that I work.

My work is based on three pillars.

Creativity

Let’s face it, every day we are bombarded with visuals. It’s important to stand out from the crowd. Therefore every project should have its own unique look and feel. Here’s where my creativity and strong sense for design come into play.

Draftsmanship

The devil’s in the details, especially when it comes to illustration. No matter the medium, subject matter or intended use, I approach each illustration with the same care and attention to detail. An illustration shouldn’t only communicate; it should also be well-made.

Fun

Life is serious enough as it is, right? Drawing is about fun, plain and simple. With every project I try to extent that feeling to my clients as well. Our collaboration should’nt just be pure business but enjoyable too, as we both strive to obtain the best possible result.

Services

Introductions aside, let’s get down to it.
What kind of services can I provide for you?

Option 1
Are you in need of someone who delivers the whole package, from start to finish? From the initial sketches to the finished illustrations and who can provide overall art direction? I’m your man.

This is a great option if you want your project or campaign to have a consistent look and feel.

Option 2
I can design one specific outing for your project. This could be a book cover, a character design, a poster, a t-shirt design, you name it. It’s up to you!

Option 3
Already got a project in the works in need of a special touch? I could lend you a hand. Choose one of my specific skills, such as line art, colouring, shading or graphic design.

That little extra can go a long way in making your project even more unique and appealing.

Work process

“How do you work?” is a question I often get. Allow me to lift the veil a bit here. It can vary depending on the type of project, but I generally follow these steps:

Rule of thumb(nails)

The first step is all about creativity, exploration and providing options. The sky is the limit. By using mood boards, thumbnails and compositional sketches I create a variety of interesting directions the project could go into.

Refinement

After that it’s decision-making time. With all these cool ideas on the table, we have to kill some darlings! The chosen few that remain are refined further and become livelier. They get a nice line art, colour or shading treatment.

The Finishing Touch

The third and final step is to put in the work and bring the project to an amazing finish. Finally, it’s time to deliver it safely to your doorstep, all tied up in a shiny bow, ready for use.

Clients

Over the past years I’ve worked for a variety of clients with different backgrounds.
Here’s a small selection:

Inspiration

The inspiration for my work comes from many places. My main sources of inspiration are European comics, movies, games, music, design, history books and nature. I believe it’s vital to draw from multiple sources to come up with original ideas for projects, instead of retreading old beaten paths.

Colleagues

I’m a lone wolf most of the time, but I’m always open to collaboration. Here are a couple of awesome creative partners I teamed up with on past projects:
